The Orphanage of the Sisters of Mother Terresa of Calcutta 117, Demuvin Street - Alapere-Ketu - LAGOS
The orphanage is located in Lagos, Nigeria in an area called Alapere Ketu near Ikedja.
They kindly welcome about 50 sick orphans. These children are pretty young, from a few days to 12 years old.
These children were abandoned and found in the streets. They were brought to the orphanage by policemen so that the sisters can take good care of them.
Half of the children are HIV positive and the others suffer from serious physical deformity (spina bifida) and or mental disease (Down syndrome, mental disorder…)
The sisters are wonderfully taking care of each child. Despite that and the limited means, the sisters are always joyful, smiling and happy to welcome new children.
The orphanage is very well taken care of despite the little money they have to maintain it. There is a little garden where the children can play. The sisters are assisted by volunteers for the cleaning and during the meals time to feed those 50 children.
These children can be adopted. There are about 4 adoptions a year. Those adoptions can be done by foreigners.
Help those sisters to make more for their children.
Don’t Forget wants to help those sisters who are making a incredible work every day with the children of the orphanage on 4 points.
- Give these children education by supporting financially a teacher who will come every day to teach them reading and writing. Education will allow them not to walk into prostitution.
- All the children of the orphanage are sick and need daily specific medicines (antibiotics, vitamins …) that are too expensive for the sisters. We want to help them by participating financially to the provision of those medicines.
- Electricity does not work efficiently in Nigeria, so people need a generator to provide energy. Gas is very expensive and the sisters are most of the time without electricity. We can help them in participating in the gas charges.
- At last we want to participate in food charges to help them to buy first necessity products like rice, milk powder and semolina.
To meet those needs Don’t Forget wants:
- To recruit a teacher for the orphanage by a Don’t Forget representative. A monthly salary will be given.
- To purchase medicines on a monthly basis after checking with the orphanage the urgent necessary needs. A representative of Don’t Forget will bring those medicines to the sisters.
- To purchase gas for their generator once a month.
- After checking with the sisters; Don’t Forget’s representatives in Nigeria will purchase once a month the milk powder, rice and semolina, nappies or disinfectant needed.
The sisters are uncorrupted trustful and honest and are making an incredible work with the children but our policy is to never give cash.
Our representatives will buy the necessary and give it to the sisters.
